Default "Thump" When taking off from 1st

Hi all,

After doing a local trail the other day and again today, I'm now getting a non-metal on metal thump when starting off in 1st. It seems to be coming from the left rear area. It also seems to be like a binding type thing. All is smooth when letting out the clutch and then "thump". You can feel it and hear it but is sounds kinda muffled. We did go through some sorta deep water, not above the axles though and not too fast, but not at a crawl either, so I wonder if I "washed" off some grease and now parts of my suspension are dry. The rest of shifting is good and there are no vibrations at speed. I can reproduce the thump by being in first at idle and goosing the gas a bit. See sig for my set up, and I've got a Rubicon.

Thoughts?

-Derek

Hit jiffy lube for a quick lube job and see if it goes away.
May as well start eliminating the easy stuff.

First , get under there and grab your driveshaft, look/feel for play. Then check torque on all control arms , swaybar links , trackbar and shocks. Inspect your trackbar bracket welds .Oh, before I forget, check and make sure your jacks not bumping around loose in the cubby.

I had the same thoughts, but I don't have access to a torque wrench right now. The drive line is solid and there is nothing indicating a bad u joint or something like that. The ride and drivability of the suspension is spot on, nothing odd while underway.

Your rear shaft doesn't have a u-joint, check the cv joints for play(stock shaft). I've found the main culpret for me with that kind of noise has been control arms. When off road and flexing, you should check the torque of all suspension components afterwards. Torque wrench is a good investment.

Oh, never mind about the shafts joints, I just looked at your sig.

Also, since you've gotten your lift, have the suspension components been re-torqued?
