Default Ticking noise from rear end???

I have noticed (especially since the weather has turned cold) that after my JK has been sitting for a while, I can hear a ticking noise coming from the rear end area when accelerating in second and third gear. It only does it when I first run through the gears, and only in 2nd and 3rd gear, especially 2nd. Any ideas? There doesn't seem to be any side affects other than the noise, no other noises or grinding or anything like that. It seems weird that it's only the first pass through the gears as well. Once the Jeep is warm, it quits. Any ideas would be helpful.

Have you checked your back tires for pebbles. Yeah, I know it sounds stupid, but sometimes it's the little things.

LOL on the pebbles but a very good and ligitimate question

aside from that, are you still running your factory rear drive shaft? if so, am i reading your specs correctly and you are sitting on a 4" lift? if so, you most likely have a CV joint starting to go bad.

Yeah, all is stock other than my tires, wheels, and lift. Sorry for sounding dumb, but is the CV joint an expensive item to replace? Is this part of the drive shaft? What is the best option to remedy the problem and assure it doesn't have future issues? What kind of money are we talking?

you cannot replace the CV joint and you will need to get a new driveshaft. at this point and time, i would consider a new u-joint style driveshaft. however, you will need adjustable rear upper control arm too as they will be needed to set your pinion angle. for the shaft, you are looking at about $400 for a 1310 shaft and if you don't have them already, rear upper control arms will set you back about $200

I saw driveshafts offered by Quadratec that are specifically made for JK's with a 4 to 6 inch lift. Does this solve the problem?
