Default Tie Rod

I took a few pretty good hits on my tie rod last week end. I have always worried about bending or breaking it on the trail. I see that a few vendors offer "stronger" ones, but I am wondering if there is a solution that would raise it up out of the way, like there are for the track bar and drag link.

Anybody seen anything like that?

You would have to replace your steering knuckles. Google steering knuckles JK and follow the link.

You could try this: Reid JK Steering Knuckle Left Side (JK001L)

But it would be more economical to get a heavy duty tie rod. Also keep in mind, the stock tie rod can bend without even hitting it. So you could upgrade your steerning knuckles, and then find out that you still need a new tie rod.

Look into the Rock Krawler kit. Awesome products, great warranty, and the best service.

At around 13:00 you'll see a couple angles of my red JK slip a tire and land on my tie rod. Stock would have folded. The other problem with just high clearance steering knuckles is you can still catch your tie rod on a taller rock. Stronger rod is a better option.
