Default Time to lift.

Did some searching on here but still have questions. I have a 08 4dr. Looking to lift it. Not planning on going to high. The wife drives it more than me. Looking at 2.5 pro comp or the 4wd. Not sure which is better. I know what opinions are like but hope to here some. I do not do much off roading. Some but not real rough stuff. I am looking to run 33 or 35s. I think the 35s. What will I need to change. I know on the 2dr drive shafts. I will change things as needed but at 1st would like to do the lift and tires first. Got the money for that stuff. Need to save for the rest. Thanks in advance

I ordered a 2.5" Rough Country kit with the 2.2 shocks. Can't tell you how it handles since it hasn't arrived yet. I can tell you that it's affordable. They say it'll fit 33's easily and take 35's with minor rubbing. If you go to the vendor section you can check the kit out on their site. I know a lot of people here suggest Teraflex. A little more expensive, though.

I was in the same boat about 6 months ago.. I ended up finding the money for the 2.5" Teraflex coil w/ shocks lift. From the research I've done it seems to get the best ratings. it will clear 35's, but I think as everything goes it depends on a number of factors; brand, width, wheels, spacers, backspacing on final fit and rubbing. so unfortunately you can't get a firm answer anywhere. I'm looking at 295/70R18 Nitto Trail Grapplers which will probably require spacers, but they measure out to 34.5 x 11.5, so they're a little smaller than the 35x12.5, which should help me in snow and DD.

My lift should be here this week and I think I'm going to attempt to put in on myself (no prior automotive experience) this weekend. I'm aiming for a write up over the weekend if all goes to plan.

Consider doing a low center of gravity rig. Fender chop or flat flares, 1" body lift and extended bump stops. Inexpensive and functional while retaining factory driveline angles and suspension geometry. Too often people get into lifts without all the components to make them fully functional and later start adding in the things that you really need out of the gate. All too often this creates a bad experience, and I'm sure your wife would have your balls if you put her in something that may promote death wobble or makes the steering flighty.

Just be honest with yourself about what you can do out of the gate, and don't take short cuts. A good place to start is Northridge 4x4 and look at the components that come with their Old Man Emu long travel kit. Not that you need to go that direction, but use it as a checklist for what any other lift kit you may be looking at should have out of the gate.

Well. A lot of people on here have the Teraflex 2.5" Lift kits. It's a well respected company with great customer service. Pro comps lifts are not as common here but people still have them.

33's & 35's can fit with no lift kit, add some spacers on stock wheels and trimmed fenders.

This kit below will give you a great start if you do not plan on running any aftermarket front and rear bumpers.

theres a big difference in lifts to fit 33's or 35's. We have a really nice 3" premium plus thats perfect for the 35's. (links in my sig). I'm running the same coils on my 2 door if you want to take it for a spin, I'm living near 4wd hardware at the moment. We will also be at the 4wd Hardware jamboree in a couple weeks stop by the booth and say hi.

Yeah like not needing a lift at all for 33s with the appropriate backspacing on the wheels and perhaps some very minor trimming.

I know what opinions are like but...
Exactly!

I would actually suggest just driving it in your normal off-road areas and see what 'you' think you need.

Then run through the Modified FAQ's at the top of this section and get some background info on what you are likely to want/need:

Q: What size lift do I need to get in order to fit 33" Tires?
Q: What size lift do I need to get in order to fit 35" Tires?
Q: What back spacing will I need on my wheels in order to clear 12.50 wide tires?
Q: What are all the components that I will need with a 3" lift?
Q: What is Caster? How much do I need?
Q: What gear ratio should I be running with 35" tires?
Q: How can I correct my speedo for bigger tires?
Q: Is there a good chart that I can refference to help me determine what gear ratio I should have installed based on the tire size I am running and the RPM's that I hope to be running?

After you know what size tires and lift you want, start looking into specific lift kits. Compare the components in each, figure out if a missing component is something you will need - want - will add sometime in the future - or can live without. Do Not Buy a kit just because of the dirt cheap price!! Compare! Does it have a way to adjust your caster? Does it re-center the axles? Bumpstops? Links? brake line relocation? How soon are you likely to need driveshafts? Will you be happy running that size tire on your current gears? More importantly, will your wife be happy with it?
