Default Time for new tires??

Thinking it’s time for new tires, certainly still some tread left, but does the old penny test really apply to OFF road type tires?

I’ve got 60k and 4 years on my KO2’s now.

They've still got plenty of meat for the street and sand but if you're getting into mud then I'd be looking for something different. I had ko2's with about the same amount of miles, still enough tread to sell on to the next guy and get some cash to put towards the next set. He was using them because they were bigger than what he had and it was a toy to take the kids out in. I'm more performance driven so I needed something deeper.

I agree, pulling the trigger on some KM3’s.

Dang, those look like they have a lot of life left on em! I sure know the allure of nice new tires though.

That's about when I sold my last set of KO2s. Still good but only for the summer where I am. Think there was almost 2/3 tread left. Liked them so much got a bigger set on my new Jeep. But I am thinking about the mile stars for off-roading.

Might want to look into Cooper Discoverers AT3 XLT. They are replacing all the historical go to tires on our DD vehicles and extended family vehicles. (Michelins, KM’s, Duratracs, Nitto”s, KO’s, Pro Comps; Yukon, K5 Blazer, YJ, JKU, Dodge 2500...). Very impressed , so far, with take-off traction, cornering, braking , hauling, off road.
Just a contender suggestion. As I always say anything new is subjectively nice. And each will come with pros and cons. The AT3s are serving their purpose for our needs.
Best of luck. Let us know

I like to follow up on my threads when I can.....

I got my KM3’s. Honesty I’ve wanted these tires for so long! I’ve always loved the tread patters on BF Goodrich tires. These might be more noisy than my last ones, and give more feedback to my steering wheel, but whatever makes you smile! so can’t wait to get out when things open up!

What's the actual weight on those guys? I thought long and hard on them before going to the Mickey's but the weight was what kept me away. According to YouTube experts who got a chance to play with those tires before the rest of us, they should be roughly equivalent in life to the ko2's based on tread measurements and mileage that I've seen/ heard....which was super appealing to me because as you experienced- they last a while and still have decent tread to where they're worth something even when you're done with them.

They look great on your Jeep. Please let us know your thoughts after you get some miles on them.
