Default Tire Carrier

Ok, I'm gonna pull the trigger on new wheels and tires in the next two weeks. Going with either fuel 962's or rockstar 2's. I'm getting 18x9 with trail grappler m/t's in 35x12.50. My question is what tire carrier should I get? I've read mixed reviews about the teraflex piece, and am not sure about any others. She's mostly a parking lot princess, and sees trails maybe once a month. What's everybody running on their rig?

On my 07 I had the smittybilt oversized tire carrier and it worked great. I ran 35's with that jeep. I don't think it's that expensive either. I recommend that one.

I'm running 37s. I plan on getting a well built permanent tire carrier next year. For now, and due to budget, I also have the oversized Smittybilt tire carrier.

I also purchased the bracket reinforcing kit.

All said and done, I paid about 160 bucks. The tire carrier is supposed to carry up to 195 lbs. the brackets are supposed to spread the weight out more than stock brackets.

That said, it's a temporary tire carrier for me that was well priced. So far I have had zero issues with it, but I have not done any significant wheeling yet. I feel confident this will hold for now. I'm aware that I do need to keep an eye on the tailgate. Hope this helps.

I should've said, but didn't... She's a '14 JKURX. Stock bumpers. Any thoughts on a bumper mounted carrier? Is there one that will work with the stock bumper? Phred and Ricon, how is/are your tailgates holding up?

So far, for the limited use it's had, all is good with the tailgate. My tire and wheel is prob close to 120 lbs. It's a good temp tire carrier for the price. Just about every review I've read was positive.

I have 40000 miles with lots of off roading on my tera flex hinge and carrier and solid as a rock. Currently running Toyo 35's. I have a 14 rubicon 4 door as well with stock bumpers and would get the TF again if something happened to my jeep.

I don't have that jeep anymore, but there was never an issue with my tailgate. I had procomp wheels and 35 km2's with that tire carrier. I wheeled all over the place with that set up and tailgate was fine. I'm pretty sure you can use it with the stock bumper. This time around I now have 37" tires so I've gone with a bumper with a tire carrier.
