Default Tire Carriers

Are there any tire carriers out there that you can put on an existing aftermarket bumper? Like a universal fit one. And that's strong enough to hold 37"s and extra recovery gear.

I think most of what you're going to find are the really heavy duty tailgate options. The issue with the bumper mounts is that the spindles on the bumpers are welded in to those suckers like a brick from the underside. It's not like you can take an existing bumper and then install your own spindle to slap a carrier on....do not expect good results.

My recommendation is to look at an aftermarket hinged tire carrier like the EVO one.

If your bumper was made with a hole to mount a tire carrier, I know the AEV, Mopar and Smittybilt Gen2 are all interchangeable. If you're going for a body mounted tailgate reinforcement, then go with Teraflex.

Agreed.
We do a ton of Teraflex HD Carrier and Adjustable Mount. I have a couple of customers that chose not to buy it and then after they see the stock carrier bend they immediately want to get something different so they don't lose their brand new spare!

Is there any particular reason you're set on a bumper mount carrier?

I really like my Teraflex hinge and carrier combo. I just didn't care for the price that much. Most of the tire carrier options, I feel are overpriced. When you can purchase an entire lift kit for the same price of a tire carrier, then something just seems wrong with the scales of economy to me.

The TF hinge has additional adapters (more $) for mounting gear on it as well. They have the gas/water tank adapter, hi lift adapter. I think I'm going to mount a chain saw on mine. That way I can carry around a gas powered chain saw on the outside.

I'm not really set on a bumper carrier just looking for something to hold my 37"s I'm planning on and won't end up with me in the shop buying a new tailgate. I'd rather spend the extra money on a good, solid carrier than the same amount of money (maybe even more) on a new tailgate and then just ending up buying a new carrier anyway.

The Teraflex HD Hinge + adjustable carrier is used by many and is good quality, as well holds a 37in tire. You can adjust the carrier portion in and out, so your tire fits snug up against the hinge portion, thus providing extra weight support for the tire. It has different lug mounting holes as well, which allows you to move the spare up and down as well.

As well, like I mentioned it also has different mounts for additionally mounting other items.

Optional rear brake light rear location bracket.

Check out Crawler Conceptz hinged carrier as an option.
