Default tire difference question

so what the difference between a 35.12.5x17 and a 295x70x17? besides that the 35x12.5 is a true 35 and the 295 is 34.5. there is about a 50$ difference per tire

actually the 295/70R17 is a approx. 33.5" diameter and 11.6" wide.

35x12.50R17 is not always a true 35" check the specs of the tire manufacture & brand you are looking at to get the true specs. Most 35's are about 34.5 to 34.8" diameter but the width is usually very close to the 12.5" wide.

Search on the specific tires you are looking at to see what the 'actual' heights are. That 'true' 35 is probably 33.5-34" tall. My old 295/75's were 32" even. Also look at the load rating. There will be a noticeable difference between a C and an E.

295-70-17 is a 33-11.50-17. Always look on the specs section of the tire for the section width and overall diameter. Every manufacturer's definition of "35" is different.

How about starting with the MFG's website?

35x12.50x17 = 34.84 x 13.19
295/70/17 = 33.54 x 11.97

So from looking at the specs that the MFG lists, maybe you can start to understand the price difference? Then you will want to do a search on each of those tires to see what 'actual' heights people are getting with them mounted and under their JK's.
