285/70 is roughly a 33/10.50.

a 33" tire will clear but you wont have much room and it will probably rub. a 32" tire is really the max recommended in most cases without modification.

as mentioned, i have seen guys run 33's but it is tight and at a full flex and depending on the make, you will see some fender rubbing.

My buddy put a set of BFG MT's 35x12.5x15 on Cragar soft 8's on his stock rig. It actually looked good and cleared well. He had to put a small spacer on the front, but otherwise he was able to turn with full lock without any difficulties. He had plenty of clearance for ON ROAD driving, and about 1 inch of clearance from the tires to the front stock bumper. We took it on some rough dirt roads down the road and it performed well. If it's a mall crawler, it should be ok...

With all that said, the next day he installed his 2.5 inch Rough Country lift. That weekend we went to Hard Rock in Ocala. Once he disconnected his sway bars he was able to do 90% of the trails without issues. I watched him have some rubbing issues on his stock fender flairs during high articulation maneuvers, but overall it worked out well.

He just put on some Xenon fender flairs...we will see how much that makes a difference. He is also talking about putting on some spacers with his lift to make sure he has full clearance. His ambition is to have a full rock crawler for fun driving.

I plan on putting 35's and the same 2.5 inch rough country on my rig. I only do the beach and some occasional weekend trails. I like to have fun, but am reluctant to kill my daily driver, so full articulation is not my thing.

Hope this helps
