Default Tire Opinion

Looking to put a set of 33's on my jk, what are some pros, and cons of these tires? Looking to get good tread wear and still be aggressive when needed. Also thoughts on spacers? What is the max width before needing them?

Pro Comp Xtreme M/T Tire LT285x70R-17/D?

Pro Comp Xtreme M/T Tire LT305x65R-17/E?

Pro Comp Radial Mud Terrain Tire, 33x12.50R-17

Discoverer STT 33X12.50R17LT?

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated!!!

on the 285/70/17 you will not need spacers. those wont rub. as far as the 12.5's those might rub. can i ask why your limiting your selection to just procom. there are tires out there that are Cheeper. you can get a full set of the BFG KM2's for right around 1100.00 and they look much better. but hey that's just my opinion.

i have seen the Procomps Xtreme MT in action. they do perform. but they chipped really bad. they came with my buddies jeep and he's already looking for another tire.

Out of the three tires you listed I prefer the Cooper STT. I am not a fan of ProComp. I would use spacers because I like the wider stance.

Dozzi,

Are you going to try to run these on your stock wheels or are you going to run a new wheel and tire combo?

Tallest and widest we recommend for a stock suspension and stock 17x7.5 wheels is a 285/70R17.

If you go with an aftermarket wheel, something wider, you can safely put a wider tire on there. If you add a mini lift as well, you get go even bigger.

Let us know if we can help you more. We would be happy to make some recommendations. As you are shopping for tires, I suggest you start with a budget in mind, then figure out what you need the tire to be able to do for you, then lastly, what you want it to do. Post these things here if you would like. There are a lot of great members here that can give you additional recommendations as well.

One more thing. We give Jk-forum members $50.00 off their total when they purchase 5 tires from www.discounttiredirect.com. (must call in your order) and Shipping is free.

Welcome to the Forum.

I am running the Discoverer STT 33X12.50's on my stock Sahara wheels (17's) with 1.5" Spidertrax spacers.

I love them and the only thing i wish was different, is that they where 35's instead of 33's.

When these wear out (and from the looks of it it will be quite a while before they do) I will likely be getting 35's of the same brand & model.

I'm runnin the pro comp mt (not extreme), details in sig.

Great tires. This is my third set (1st on the JK)of pro comps and have been very happy with them. Great tires. Do well in the rocks. Dig in the soft sand (what do you expect from a mud tire) but do great in the sand when aired down. Haven't had em in the mud. Not much mud here in the desert. Have about 12k miles on em and are wearing very well. These get in my book.

BTW, I usually wait until they do the buy 3 get one free and it help out greatly on the cost.

It should be noted that ProComp tires are made by Cooper. And the Extreme MT and the STT use the same carcass and compound

I was told the compound is different, that the Pro Comp was a softer compound.
