Default Tire Pressure sensors

I have a 2010 JK Unlimited 4 door and I'm getting new wheels and tires. I will be switching from the OEM 17 inch wheels to 16's due to cost. Anyone have any issues with the tire pressure sensors in doing this. Can a tire shop re-use the existing ones or will I have to buy new one for the new wheels? I havent had any experience with theses sensors. My last Jeep was an 85 CJ7. Thanks for the help.

If you want to keep them, then they can be swapped into the new wheels. Make sure to request that be performed however.

Just mention it to them when they break the tire bead on your existing rims. If they do it near the TPM you can forget it, the bead breaker will crush them and will render them useless. They can be re-used in your new tires. You may have to get the dealer to re-flash them to a different PSI in case you are running a different pressure than what it is now. I know mine when I put my new tires on my 17" rims, were set to 35 PSI and I run my tires at 37 PSI. Either ones can be re-used whether it is the screw in rubber combo or the metal valve stem with the nut. Let us know how it goes.

Never heard of anyone having issues with a 16" wheel. Its the 15's that people have rubbing issues.

16" rims are fine. Mine came with 16" rims.

I went from a 17" wheel to a 16" no problem.

Most X model JKs came factory with 16 inch rims, I know mine did.

As to the OP, I replaced my factory 16s with aftermarket 16s and I simply requested the dealer break down the TPMS and install it in my new rims. Lots of vehicles are coming with these now, so the dealer didn't seem shocked at my request one bit. You shouldn't have a problem so long as you mention it ahead of time.
