Default Tire pressure sensors

Do you NEED these on aftermarket wheels? What happens if you dont have them? A light comes on? Can a dealer disable it?

Also ... do they come out from the outside or do the tires have to be unmounted to remove them?

Do you need them....No...but it will ring the chime and flash the light at you.

Can the dealer dissable it....No...legaly they can't

Do they come out from the outside.....Again No....you break the bead on the rim and unscrew the valve stem and remove from the inside.

Solutions....most aftermarket wheels will allow you to put the sensors in them and you will be fine. If you are running your new tires at a different pressure, you may or may not need to take it to the dealer and have them reflash the sensors to the pressure you are running. They come from the factory set to go off at a 25% loss of pressure or around 28psi

Well, The reason I ask is because I am going to use my stock wheels and tires for winters. I dont think I want to have the sensors removed twice a year.....

Does this mean that when you air down, the damn things annoy the piss out of you?

On some rigs....if you remove the sensors, there's no signal to the truck....so, no air down hassles.

On the JK....its different?

You have a couple of options. You can buy spare sensors here. .http ://stores.channeladvisor.com/2-day-parts/Items/tire-acc-tpms-stems-cdjm?sck=11835932.... or live with the light.

When I have aired down the light does stay on until I air back up but the chime only goes off when you first start your engine.

I would, at least for awhile. The price and availability has to come down soon as they are mandated for all 2008 and newer cars.
