Tire Question
I thought about that. I believe the Rubicon's have BF Goodrich Mud Terrain's which from the reviews and speaking with a sales rep at tire rack are terrible in the snow and ice. For the price I don't think I can pass up a set of General Grabber A/T 2's. Mostly very positive reviews and the price is really nice.

I went through the same thing youre going though. I have a 2015 manuel with 3.73 gears. With the stock tire diameter the gears were way to high but thats why I ordered the 3.73 gears, I knew I was going with 33s. I put 305 70 16 General Grabber AT2 tires on black rock 941 wheels with a 5 in back spacing. You didnt mention wheels but if you go 33s youll need 5 in back spacing or spacers. The wheels were only $81 a piece. Mine dont rub anywhere,or even look like they can because theres plenty of clearance. I havent had it off road yet but I just do fire trails and hill climbing anyway. As far as gearing with this setup, its perfect with the 3.73 gears. At 70 mph (thats with the speedo recalibrated so I'm actually doing 70 ) the tach sets at 2100 rpm. The tires have good reviews and are quiet. Hope this helps.

Helps immensely. I was really hoping to not have to buy new rims right away but it is what it is. How did you recalibrate the speedometer? Does recalibrating affect your warranty at all? One of my problems with changing to much now is having a $30k vehicle with a voided warranty.
The warranty question is a somewhat vague topic. First off, find a mod friendly dealer and you are in a much better position. Generally speaking, you will only have a warranty issue if the modification caused the failure. If you get larger tires and break an axle shaft, that's most likely on you (though I've heard some people get it warrantied). Put a lift on and your driveshaft goes, that's your problem. Put a lift on and your transmission blows up, that's unrelated and should be covered.
Again, you want a dealer who is cool about mods. They may not warranty stuff like a broken axle shaft as a result of 35" tires, but they also won't red flag you in the system (that is what you don't want and it has happened to some people). Once you get flagged, you are pretty screwed.
I worried a lot about that at first, then realized that just about everything on the Jeep would be better to get replaced with better parts. There's not much to warranty that I wouldn't just replace with better parts.

Thanks for the insight. I had also read that the dealer couldn't/wouldn't calibrate the speedometer for a tire larger than a maximum sized tire option that Jeep offers. I've looked a little into the software to reprogram the computers. Looks like I need to delve into that this evening and figure out what route to go with that. I see there are options like what octane you plan to run for better power and MPG's. Time's have changed since my YJ.
