Tire question and gearing
New to this jeep family. Stock rubicon 4 door automatic 2011. At what size tire would I have to regear? 35"? I want to add a small lift 2or 2-1/2" and tires possibly. Would I gain body and undercarrage clearance by just the lift without upsizing tires? I assume so but I figured you all were the ones to ask. Also if I did change tires I don't want to be forced to regear seeing how I lost the money tree since I bought the jeep. What size tires could I go to? Thanks

Yeah with a 2.5" lift you can squeeze up to a 35" tire. Don't forget you will need quality wheel spacers if you keep the stock rims. In my opinion the 4doors don't look good unless they have at least a large 33" but preferably a 35" tire. The weight also makes a difference. My brothers lighter duratracs seem to be easier to push than my nittos of the same size. I'd definitely stick below 35 until you regear running an auto.
currently running 35's with 4.88 gears - close to overall stock but retain great freeway driving and the ability to lock out the OD. 2010 Auto Unl Rubi.
4.56 gears would be same as stock but i wanted the option to move to 37's and be close to stock. Others will say gear more but if you want to retain OD and good freeway handling, i would stick with 4.88.
I do a lot of traveling between TX and Utah via Colorado and avg 19 on the freeways (with wind and loaded about 16), around town if i drive normal 16, but usually around 14.
BTW - I ran my 35's with the 4.10's for about a year before changing. It was ok but glad i re-geared.

I have a 2010 w/ 35's and auto tranny and just regeared to Yukon 5.13's. From all the research I did and talking to several experienced gear shops they all said go with the 5.13's on an auto and I'm glad I did. Runs great! RPM's are about 2300 at 70mph and the OD functions very well on hills etc. Gas mileage is about 18-19 on the highway and off road is good as well. I don't have a single complaint!

Thanks for info. Stupid question though. How does changing to lower gear ratio keep MPG up. I thought you would rev more to move bigger tires and lose MPG. School me please. Thanks
