Tire questions
I have been thinking lately about upgrading the tires on my X. I have the stock SRA Wrangler tires, I think 255/75/17. I want to upgrade to 33s so so bad. (I do blame everyone here because of the pictures you have been posting!!) The problem that I have is that I plan on going back to school again (working on 3rd degree
). The school that I plan to attend is like 1 hour away. I will be driving there 5 days a week for about 6 months. One question is, if I do bump up to 33s, will my mpg drop about 2-4 miles? My Jeep has a 6 speed, if that matters any.
If I do upgrade soon, I am stuck on the brand of tires. I really like the Cooper STT. Then again, Mickey Thompson are nice and BFG makes a good looking tire. So this brings up my 2nd question: About how many miles can you get out of an All Terrian Tire? 20, 30 40K miles? I mean, if I wear out dang good tires on the interstate, I am gonna keep running the SRAs and upgrade after I get out of the school. I am leaning towards keeping the SRAs on the X.
Any help would be appreciated beacuse I can not begin to explain how much my girlfriend is tired of hearing me talk about this subject.

i would say for the best mpg an all terrian would get the best for a 33 now with something like a mud tire mpg is going to suck!! if you rotate tire about every oil change you could easly get 50k out of tires . since you will be on the road mostly i would just go bigger than the stock tires with a little ruff tread for better looks
I have 33" Cooper STT's on my PU (05 3/4 ton extra cab 4x4 Chev Diesel) and got 40k out of my last set (I'm on my 3rd set). But I rotated every 5-6k.
My 08 4 dr JK has 35" BFG KM2's. The STT is a better street tire as it is quieter and doesn't have any roughness at all. Having used both off road I'd say the KM2 is better off road. I've cut the sidewalls, necessitating new tires, on the STT's. The KM2 has a beefier sidewall and is better in rocks.
If I was commuting and wanted an agressive MT that was good on the road and lasted a long time I'd get the STT.
