Tire and Rim Size
So I just had someone tell me to get bigger tires and rims I'd have to also do motor and tranny work, upgrade the breaks and have the speed gage recalibrated...not sure now bout changing them.

You will find some great gear/rpm charts, advice on backspacing, tire size vs lift size, etc.
It should make sense to you that if you go to taller tires, the speedo/odo will be off, correct? To get them accurate again, there are many programmers/tuners on the market to look at, all of which have many other functions besides calibration.
It should also make sense that bigger tires will decrease the brake functionality. There are many threads on upgraded pads and rotors, even whole new brake systems. What you might want would depend on your personal opinion and the new tire size. Just depends.
Motor upgrades? Taller tires makes the engine work harder. Re-gearing the axles would make the most difference, but you can add some engine bolt-ons if you choose. Again, depends on your personal opinion of the performance.
Tranny work? Not likely, but possible if you run much bigger tires and don't bother to regear.
You wont need any engine or tranny work with 33s or 35s. You can if you want but you don't need to. Ive got 37s and the 3.8L engine bone stock.
Id stop taking advice from whoever told you that lol.

You can get 50" tires (assuming enough clearance) and not change anything else. It is a personal preference. Taller tires cause the gauges to be inaccurate, worse performance, accelerated wear and tear, whatever else. If you choose not to address any of it, that is your choice. If you don't like the loss of performance, do something about it. If you don't like the speedo/odo being off, do something about it. It's up to you. It depends on what size tire you go to, what gear ratio and engine you currently have, where you live, your driving style, and your personal opinion.
