Default Tire Rotation

I was wondering if bigger, meaty tires need to be rotated more frequently than normal road tires on a car?

I would suggest rotating every or every other oil change for the best wear, if you have a full size spare do a 5 tire rotation and you will increase your tire life by 20%

Good point, I didn't even think about putting the 5th tire in the mix! Thank you for the tip.

Has anyone considered doing a 6 tire 6k rotation? I'm thinking of buying 6 tires when I upgrade to the Duratracs in a couple months and it seems that buying that 6th tire will pay for itself by the time the third rotation cycle is complete. I was thinking rotating fronts to spare... Rear to front... And spares to rear every 6k.

Rotating big tires often is a must if you want some miles out of them. The Goodyear Wrangler MTRs on my 2006 LJ Rubi had 32K on them when I traded it in and they looked like they had another 20K left in them, perfect tread wear. Others complain they wear out fast. Similar on my 90 Cherokee with BFG ATs and Early Broncvo with BFG MTs. I always rotate them at every oil change or about 3K miles including the spare. I cross rotated the Bronco ones but I'm sure the dealer went front to back only on the 2006 LJ

I never considered a 6 tire rotation, it would definitely increase overall treadlife, but there is the added cost of a 6th wheel as well. if you're running stock wheels a 6th wheel is cheap, but if you're running pintlers, like I am....ouch. definitly something to consider though.

Hmmm 6 tires....I dunno. That would mean more space consumed in my garage...Me thinks it's 1 tire too many!

Depends on the tire. Something with a super soft and sticky compund like the SS Iroks I was running I rotated every 3K. Keep in mind, you can practically see the wear as you are driving down the road with these. I only got about 18Kmiles out of mine.

Now the Toyos I am currently running I do every 6K miles. Have had them on for about 15K miles and really can't see any significant wear yet but still rotate them.

I like the 5 tire rotation becuase i can do it myself and it only reauires jacking up one tire at a time. much easier to do than a 4 tire rotation yourself.
