Tire Rotation
Quick question oh knowledgeable ones?
The 35's are on their way and in preparation i would like to know if it is common practice to rotate the spare tire as well with the 4 that are on the hubs ie. move the spare to rear right, rear right to front right, front right to front left and so on. What is the best mileage to rotate? Every 3,000 miles?
Thanks in advance..

Not a knowledgeable one, but I rotate in the spare. Only I do spare to right rear, right rear to right front, and then right front to left rear, left rear to left front, and left front to spare. I do it with oil changes, generally every 4-5K.
Every 4,000 I do this: Just like JKsJK but I have a picture!

This keeps your spare wearing at the same basic rate as the other four. It is important that a solid axle four wheel drive have a spare that is the same outside diameter as the ones on the ground.

One more thing to say...
I started rotating at 3k when I first got my jeep, It was my first set of mud tires and I was scared they
would get loud and nasty. After the 3rd time around 9k I noticed that cupping was not cleaning up on the
back tires so I switch to 6k too see. IMO the 3000 mi rotation is not enough time for the rear axle to
straighten things up. There would be more uneven wear on the front w/ the additional 3k, right???
I dunno, but now the backs are nice and square.
Maybe I'm just crazy
or really just lazy, But I'd say every 6000 mi.

I've got about 10K on mine, so I guess I'll have to run with ESP off and do lots of burnouts, so the spare can catch up. Thanks. I've been looking for a diagram of all 5 tires, since the owner's manual only shows 4.

Rotate the spare in. Some people will say to leave the spare new; however, unless you put allot of mileage that rubber on the spare will age and not be the same value as a new tire anyway -- e.g. I wouldn't put it on as a new one with my second set, because of the age.
it is a good idea to have the spare in rotation. It will increase the length of time your set of tires lasts, you will however have to buy 5 tires when you go to replace the worn ones instead of 4. You should do this anyway, becuase tires have a shelf life and spare not being used still will need to be replaced.
Rotate the spare. You should replace it at the same time you replace the others any way because environmental factors age the tire even if it just sits on the back. If you don't rotate it and don't replace it when you buy new tires then one day when you need your spare say four or five years down the road it is more prone to fail.
