Default tire size

HI all. We just bought our second Unlimited and the first one is going to need some new rubber pretty soon. I know that we can go with the 32 x 10.50 but will that require new rims, or will that size fit on the standard 16" that came with the 2007?

Thanks,

jvs

Thanks BaltChief.

Maybe you can answer this one too: the 2009 I just bought came with the 3:21 rear. However, it was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up.

Is it a big deal changing the gears in the rear. I'd like to go with 4:10 as in our 2007.

I have 3.21's and 33 inch tires. It does fine araound town but sucks on any type of grade or hill. I am regearing to 4.56's as I am going to a 35" tire. I was quoted $1200 per axle at the dealer....shopped around a bit and found a local 4x4 shop that will do them for $1200 for both. The only suggestion I have is that you look for a shop with a good reputation....gears are tricky and can be a real mess if not set up right.

Can I just have the rear done, or should I do both? My intention was just the rear.

If you are going to pay the money for re-gearing, you might as well put in some good Superior gears that keep your future upgrades in mind.

If you plan on going to 33's in the future, consider 4.56, 4.88's for 35's and 5.13's for 37's. With a 6-speed and 3.73s, my 35's cause the Jeep to bog down a little on the long highway stretches. When I can afford to, I will be going to 4.88's.

You can browse the FAQ's when you get time. Lots of good info to get you headed in the right direction...

That size is common off the lot on JK's, you will have no problems. Also, you might watch the for sale section, lots of folks selling their take-offs when they go bigger. Look for the Sahara tires on 18" rims if you want an all terrain, or look for the Rubi tires on 17" rims if you want a mud terrain. Same 5on5 pattern, direct bolt ups, and you can find them for cheap.

For gearing, as was stated above, you'll need to do both axles if it's a 4 wheel drive. You may find some cheap 4.10 gears in the sale section also. Though, if you're paying that much to regear, consider Armycops suggestion of going to a 4.56 or even a 4.88
