Question Tire/Wheel question

I am ordering 33x12.5x15 Cooper STTs. My question is regarding the wheel size. I will be going with black steel Cragar Soft 8 or the Procomp. What is the difference to me (forget price) in 15x8,15x10 etc.

Does it matter on the width of the rim? Is one more prone to losing the bead when aired down? If so which one?

Any comments at all.

TIA

I would go with the 10 before the 8 in my oppinion. I don't know about airing down but with a 12.5 tire on an 8 inch rim you could round out the wheel a bit making a high spot in the middle of the tread. I think most are going with a 9 inch.

For a 12.5" section width...8" is fine, ...too wide, and you blow beads off road, plus, you want the sidewall bulge out past the rim's edge, etc.

Even 7" is OK for a 12.5" section width...I have a set on 7" rims on another rig for the past 80K miles now...wears very evenly, works great on the road, and off road.

If starting from scratch with new rims, in a 15" size, you MIGHT have brake caliper clearance issues....grinding off a bit of the offending metal can fix it...but, be aware of it.

People with the STT's like them.

TeeJ, thanks for the input. i read your other posts on this question and I was getting confused with all the banter going back and forth. I have a great price on a package deal of

Crager Soft 8: 15x8 5-5 4"BS Black:
Cooper STT 33x12.50-15:

from Travis at Discount Tire and I just want to be sure that 15x8 will work on & off road.

IF the 15" rims clear the brakes, THEN you'll have no problems with the 15x8 rims.

The 4" of BS might make the tires stick out a little bit outside of the fenders, but allow decent stuffage clearance of inboard rub. If your inspections in your state, etc...do not allow tires outside the fender line...you might have to mount your oem package in 2010 or so when its inspection time, to get through, and then take off again, etc.

Default 8" is best

Go for 8" width. you will have less problem with rubbing etc. 12.5 with 8" is perfect. Less width & less drag. the tires will protect your rims on rock track too. However, i have been reading the 15" diameter is not a good size, 16" is better as even the OEM is 16".
Don't buy because of the "good deal" buy because it is best for your car and use.

I can get the same great deal (little more money) on 16" as well. It just seemed that a lot of people were going 15R. What/where did you read the info.
