Default Which Tires are the Best ????

Hello this is a problem i have been having for the past couple weeks. Trying to decide what tires i want. I like the Nitto Mud Grapplers design but do not know how they preform. I have also seen the new BF goodrich KM2 mud terrain and am waiting for a release date.

I am not stuck between these two tires im just lost in what to buy.

What tires are the best.

I usally stick to the rocks but my jeep is also a daily driver. I need something that will work well with both.

Any suggestions?

Im not a big fan of the mud grapplers, they seem to do ok offroad, but they are really loud on the road and look like crap once they start to wear down. Id wait on the KM2's even though I think they will be real expensive at first.

They don't seem to be too bad actually. I was quoted at ~$265 for the 35x12.5R17 and ~$250 for the 315/75R16...

I can't tell you what the best tire is, because I haven't rated every one of them personally. But I've owned about 6 different sets of MT style and 2 sets of all terrain styles, and I'd say the best "all around" tire is the BFG All Terrain TA.

Offroad, they were great
Onroad, super quiet and rode fine
Ice/Snow, better than any MT will ever be
Rain, not a problem
Mud, does fine but not as good as MT. It'll still pull you through though.
Rocks, chew up a bit, but they stick well and have enough lug depth to catch onto things
Sand, as good as you'll get without having true sand paddles on your rig

That's my 2 cents.

Happy trails,
Mike

I haven't went to a mud terrain tire yet but have been told if you are using your jeep as a daily driver to go with an A.T. tire.

I have enjoyed my bf all terrains but when my new wheels they will be wrapped in either the mickey thompson baja atz or the nitto at for I have heard both tires are great at high speed interstate travel and decent if your doing a little rock crawl plus A.T.'s are so much better in rain snow and ice.

I have the KM2's on my Jeep. I haven't taken them on a trail ride yet. They ride on the road well and don't make a lot of noise. Looking at them I think they would do well for what you're wanting to do. They look like a crawler with grooves.

everyone is going to have a strongly different opinion on this topic. and everyone is going to believe they are right and you are wrong.

IMO

AT = on road only. not even remotely close to being good for anything off pavement. I also think the appearance screams I think a gravel parking lot counts as wheeling.

MT = great off road, ok on road.

I have owned BFG AT, BFG MT, GY MTR in 31 and 33, and Krawlers.

IMO the MTR was the best all-around of the three aggressive tires. They were much more noisey than the BFG MT but they performed better and wear better. The BFG MT is a good daily driver tire. It makes little to no noise and handles pretty well off road. Some claim the BFG MT shed mud better than the MTR, I disagree. I think they are identically poor in that regard. The Krawlers were significantly better off road but I got about 24K out of them. The MTRs got about 43K the MT about 38K and the ATs..... don't know had to get rid of them with about 5K on them.

I would like to try out the Toyo Open County MTs. They look promising and I have heard good reviews from local jeepers. Those KM2s look killer too. I want to see how well those wear before I would throw money on those.
