Default Tires :D

Ladies and Gentlemen, the time has come for my JK to acquire a new set of shoes! Now that winter is just around the corner, I was thinking of throwing a set of winters on there. My question to you is, which winter tire do you prefer for driving in the winter on snowed over highways and icy surfaces?

Go for some TreadWrights with Kedge Grip. The narrower the better.

if you are looking for an off road tire that performs well in snow, look no further than the duratracs (they are also studdable). If you are looking for snow performance only, Nokian Haakepellita (sp?) Ice tires are the best in the business. Personally, I went with the Duratracs and have put them to the test on just about every surface except for sand and they have performed beyond my expectations. Mud traction was a little weaker than a true mud tire but they still performed better than expected. My guess is you'll see an overwhelming response in favor of Goodyear Duratracs. They will not disappoint.

Duratracs sound really good, I've been reading up on them, problem is my sponsor doesn't carry goodyear brand so I'm out of luck on those since I can't get them at cost. I will get these from a different dealer if i have to though... What are some other good winter tires out there?

I've had nothing but good experiences with my Nitto's as long as you don't mind the noise.

Cepek's work really well in snow. So do Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ or Baja ATZs

I am a big fan of my Cooper Discoverer S/Ts, they are also come pinned for studs. If you are looking for a street tire my parents both run the Cooper Discoverer M+S on their winter vehicles in Vermont.

That would be Hakkapeliitta, and yes they're as good as it gets for a real "winter" tire.

I love my Duratracs. But the only other year-round all terrain tire that I would approve and is severe snow rated is the BFGoodrich AT KO.

I live in Buffalo, NY which gets a LOT of snow. I live in an area where they do not plow roads. Both of those tires have been fantastic to me in the snow.

Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo has been a good tire in the snow around here. But for a straight up snow tire, get Bridgestone Blizzaks.

Size you are looking for also plays a factor. You can't really find snow tires in 35 inch sizes or off road tire sizes.
