Default Tires, Wheels, and Lift

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and a new jeep owner as well. I am looking at doing my first mod. I have a 2012 JKU with 3.21 gears, 16" stock wheels and 225/75/16 stock tires.

This is what I was looking at doing:

1. Teraflex leveling kit: Teraflex 1155200 - Teraflex Leveling Kit for 07-13 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

2. Ion Wheels model 171, 16x8

3. Hankook Dynapro AT-m, 265/75/16

Any thoughts, opinions or help is appreciated. If anyone has pics of a similar setup, that would be nice too.

Thanks

I would get a 285/75/17 or even 305/70/16 which is what I have on my 12 with 321 gears. I also have the teraflex leveling kit and it's a perfect combination I think

I would like to stick with 16's so I don't have to buy a 5th wheel. Will the wider tires stick out past the fenders? Can you post pics?

Thanks

I'd go with a larger 285/75-16 (33x11.50) or 305/70-16 (33x12.50) tire personally. How far they stick out will depend a lot on the wheel width and it's backspacing.

I just went from my factory 255/75/17's to Goodyear duratrac 285/80/17's and so far I am very happy with them

Next step is the 2.5" lift

If you don't plan to buy new wheels I think you will need spacers for a larger 285 or 305 tire

If you're getting the leveling kit, I'd do either of the above. Wider would be preferrable: better if you're going to wheel it and looks nicer too.

Are you planning to wheel it? If so, might want to skip the leveling kit and go straight to a coil lift. If not wheeling, the level kit should be fine and will get you some inexpensive wheel clearance.

Not sure why you think you need to stick with a 16" wheel though. If you're doing 33's, you'll be fine. Just can't really move up to 35's on 16's. Would need 15" or 17". On a 16, the largest size you'll usually fine is 315 / 75 / 16 which is a little over 34".

Just for reference, here's a pic of my wheel/fender. I'm running 9 inch wide wheels with 4.5 inches of backspacing and 305mm (12.50 inch) wide tires.
