Default Toe in?

After driving my buddies lifted JK I noticed that mine felt like it wandered at highway speeds considerably more than his. I decided to follow the write up for toe adjustment, and was shocked that before touching anything I was 3/8" closer in the front than the rear(2012 with 5k miles.) I measured it 5 times at different locations with the same results. I adjusted to the suggested 1/8" difference and from the quick drive was very noticeable(don't have to fight the wheel nearly as much.)
Is the 3/8" difference normal in the stock location? I thought I was going to need to bring the toe in a bit to compensate for the larger tires/lift, but I ended up having to do the opposite.
