Default Towing your JK

Has anyone towed your unlimited JK with a Shrockworks or LoD bumper? Can you use the recovery attachments with a tow bar? Which tow bar did you use? I am wanting to tow my unlimited JK to Colorado from Texas with my Z71, 4x4 Sierra, this summer.

You will most likely have to have a bracket welded on, I had mine done at a local shop and it works great I'll look for pics to post up..

Here's a pic

Sorry, I keep trying to figure out how to post this picture, I can't remember...

I have the Shrockworks front bumper and the recovery points on it are more than adequate to use with a tow bar. The issue is finding an adjustable tow bar or one that is the same width. Since they do not advertise that it is usable with a tow bar Shrockworks probably did not space them for a tow bar. I would have a local shop weld you up a bar that matches the recovery point width. It probably would be about the same price if you bought one, but it would work sweet with your Jeep.

Warrior products makes and adjustable towbar and brackets to attach the tow bar to your recovery points.

A friend of mine took some measurements of my Shrockworks front bumper and made me some custom tow bar brackets to attach the tow bar to the shackle mounts. He had to make some bushings to go inside the shackle mounts since the pin he used to hold the tow bar brackets onto the shackle mounts is much narrower than shackle pins. I don't know where he got the tow bar from, but the main thing is getting properly fitted brackets to mount whatever tow bar you use to your bumper.

I have the LOD full width bumper and i use a tow bar that looks like yomondos. I had mounting brackets made with shackles welded inside a "U" shaped bracket that mounts to the tow bar. If the weld breaks, the shackle is still inside the "U" bracket.

If your bumper uses the original 4 bolt holes on the front of each frame rail, Rock Hard makes a bracket that uses 2 holes on each side. Mine is for the Blue Ox tow bar, but he probably makes the Roadmaster one as well. About $70 for the pair. If not, most of the tow bar manufacturers make adaptors to be bolted onto the bumper . I did that on the ARB on my ZJ. Works great and you get the proper fit.
