Goodyear MT/R's are a great tire if you play on the rocks - tough sidewalls and provide very good traction. However, I have never been that wowwed by their on pavement performance, slick or dry and their average lifespan of about 35,000 miles is just okay. Now, the Toyos are more expensive but from what I have seen of them, they perform great on and off the trail, have tough sidewalls for the rocks, provide amazing traction slick or dry, are surprisingly quite for a mudder and in my opinion, look great. Another tire worth considering is the Pro Comp Xtreme M/T's (Toyo look alike) as they perform a lot like Toyo's.

yeah, what he said. I am a long time Goodyear MTR convert! I never thought I would find a tire with good traction on the rocks that was quiet for on-the road. I have the toyos and will never go back to the mtr's unless they are free. The toyos are a great choice!

I was thinking about the pro comps but was talked out of them simply because many people said the tread life on them wasn't that great.. This is my daily driver so I need something that keeps up over the miles, looks good and performs well when I do make it offroad

This was true of the old Pro Comp M/T's but I don't know how anyone could have an opinion of tread life on the new Xtreme M/T's as they just came out. I have them on my JK now and have put on well over 15,000 miles on them and they still have tons of tread on them.

Default Mtr or Toyo

I had MTRs on my YJ, loved them on the rocks and pavement. Then I bought the JK, and MTRs did not come in 17s. So I bought the Toyos. They are just as good. Actually bought them on line $250 each delivered to my door. So they were just as cheap as any other tire. Had to wait 3 days but well worth it.

Default Toyo's

I have a set of Toyo's(315/70r16) and compared to MTR's(285/75r16) I had on my LJ a lot quieter. But a little stiiffer ride due to being a 10 ply load range E but that can be corrected running at a lower psi...30# is working for me, even tread wear and not harsh riding. Try treadepot.com got 5 delivered to the house for $1265!

I had 38" Toyo's on my CJ, they are a great tire and fairly quite for an MT. I liked them a lot, but I wanted to try something else on the JK and Toyo's prices skyrocketed since I bought the one's on my CJ.

Toyo 33x12.5x18 on stock 18s. Love them. Terraflex 1" spacers solved the rubbing.

Can't comment on the Goodyears but I did have 33" BFG M/Ts on my 73 Bronco
and the Toyo's are much quieter on the street and ride smoother. As said before,
they are pricey.
