Tpms... Ahhhhh!!!
Wasn't sure where to post this but here goes...
I recently purchased an '08 JKU with aftermarket rims/tires. I've been driving it for about a month. This past weekend the TPMS warning went off. So, I went and aired up the tires. Well the tires were really low, around 20psi. Guess that's why the ride was so nice
That's what I get for assuming the dealership would've had them aired appropriately before I drove off the lot. I aired them up to 35 per factory for stock and many on the forum for aftermarket large tires. They're 315/75-16 Bf Muds with a max of 3,000+ lbs and 50psi. The TPMS warning is still going off
There was a Hypertech Max Energy in the glove box when I bought the Jeep. I went online and did all the updates and then set my TPMS to 35 last night. Still have the warning. Unfortunately Hypertech doesn't allow a setting of 0. Lowest is 3psi.
Does this mean that they're damaged? Or that they aren't even there? If that's the case why did they just go off this past weekend after driving for a month? How can I check if they're damaged or not even there?
From reading posts I've gathered that they're part of the valve stem. Other than that I don't know much else about them. Aside from this most recent goof with my tire pressure I was much better off without TPMS on previous vehicles. I HATE TPMS!!!
Thought I'd check here before I run off to the dealership or nearest tire shop.
Thanks for any help!

the light will come on if they are damaged just as it will if the air pressure is too low. Not sure if it will throw a DTC or not, may want to hook up the hyper tech and see if you're getting any codes. Other than that I would say take her by the dealer...those little things are not cheap either!
