Default TPMS reprogramming by dealer

I had my TPMS sensors retrieved from my stock wheels and tires. I got my new wheels and mounted up my new wheels and tires including the stock tire sensors. BTW, the stock sensors fit great on WE bead lock wheels. I have heard at stock they are set at 35 psi. In a TPMS search here on the forum I have read that the dealer can reprogram the wheel sensors for a lower psi. Does anyone know if this is in fact true?

I can hear it now, "Why do you want to do that?" or "No we can't program for tire size." or "No we won't warranty that."

Hoping someone has more info, so maybe I can explain to the dealer how other dealers are doing it.......

Well, as I knew would happen, I just talked with a service guy, who said "NO WAY, WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT!" and "The hand held machine programs the sensors to work on that vehicle."

I would like to get good info from someone who knows. You would think the service guy would know......

Had mine done at the dealer without a problem. I think they took the set point to 28#.

x2....mine are at 28 also. Dealer said that was as low as he could go. They did tell me that they were not suppose to change them, infact mine were done without a service ticket so there is no record. There seems to be allot of confusion with the new laws reguarding these things.

Sounds like a MAJOR liability for the dealer. He's only authorized to provide the manufacturer approved specifications for the vehicle as sold.

Is there an aftermarket tool that allows us to reprogram them ourselves. I will have two sets of tires with TPMS and I plan on switching them out as I need them. Be a pain to keep going back.

Post My 2008 TPMS is self programing

My 2008 didn't require programing of each sensor or reprograming the TPMS. Had after market wheels (17x8.5) & Goodyear 285x70 MS put on Rubi, se all 4 wheels to the same air pressure (30 psi) then drove at the same speed for 1-2 miles and it reset program.

Do you know if it will also work at different psi. Worse case I will set them at the same psi, get them to reset and then change the psi. Will that work.

You don't have to have them reset if you are using the original (read: already programmed) sensors.
They only need to be reprogrammed if you are going to run a different PSI than stock.

Glad I have an '07 and don't have to worry about this.

So just to confirm, I have two sets of tires with two sets of sensors. You are telling me that I will have to re-program each time I make a switch. PIA
