Default TPMS Work Around

Maybe you good folks can help. It recently sold all five rims/tires off my 08 Rubi to a friend who has a Sahara. I in turned got her five TPMS sensors from her rims and put them in a PVC tube pressurized to 55 PSI. I put this tube in the glove glove but the TPMS is still flasking...what do I need to do now?
Thanks!

try 35psi. That is the factory pressure. If that doesn't work. I would bet that the new tpms Sensors have to be programmed to the computer.

The sensors (4 of 5) need to be spinning as well.

Why bother?
It doesn't affect how the Jeep drives.....Mine are in the shop where the stock tires/rims are....

And in TX, if a car came equipped with TPMS (as all cars from '08 on are) then it must function in order to pass the inspection So ultimately we will need to do something about it.

for inspection... works out if you have a friend you can swap wheel and tires with for a day.

Actually, the sensors shut down after a certain period to preserve batteries. Once motion is detected they fire back up again. At least that's the way most of them work.

Putting them in a tube is part of the solution. Moving the tube enough to activate the TPMS is the trick.

Let us know if it works out!

If they need to spin, why do you not get alarm if you start car in driveway and not go anywhere?

The TPMS logic in the ECU is smart enough to know if you shut down the engine and the pressure is good, it will start up the next day assuming it's still good. Won't set off until you go for a bit. If you lower the pressure at the trail head, it will notice immediately since the sensors are active for a while after you stop. I've aired down in the garage the night before and the next morning there's no warning until I move the Jeep. Same the other way - I've aired up after I put it in the garage and the next morning I get the warning even though the pressure is good. All depends how you leave it.

Almost all TPMS have XZ-axis accelerometers embedded to sense motion. There is a 10-year requirement for the sensor battery - that's why they have shut-down logic (trying to preserve the battery). Should be interesting in 2018 when all of the 1st gen TPMS's start crapping out!
