Default Track Bar Question

Greetings Earthlings,

I just installed a Black Diamond BB 2" Lift on Saturday?? I have adjustable track Bars coming from JKS in the next few days that I am installing, and possibly the weld on rear TB Mount as well.
Question #1 is: Am I safe to drive with the stock track bar in place for the next few days until I can install the new ones? The difference in axle position is about 3/8 in measured by the tires.

Question #2 is: If the mount does fail while driving, what will happen??

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, it is greatly appreciated.

The shift is very minor, but with 2 little ladies, it has been on my mind. The rear needs less than 2/8's and the front is ony 2/16's difference. Dont even know if I will bother with the front.

Thanks again

#1: Yes. 3/8" isn't a huge deal and should be fine for a while. Also I ran with the factory trackbar and the relocation bracket for 16k miles without failure.

#2: You don't wanna know...it sucked bad. I was driving down the road at 30mph and it snapped off the axle housing. It sends you into the most hardcore death wobble ever and it feels like your entire Jeep is literally falling apart with you inside helpless to stop it. Ok, that was really dramatic, but true none the less

Well, you made up my mind. JKS Bracket Brace gets welded on too !!! Sorry that happened to you, but glad everyone is apparently OK. Dont need anyone getting hurt or killed 'cause daddy needed bigger wheels....

Thanks

I think welding a reinforcement bracket on the rear trackbar mount is definitely a good idea. The Skyjacker kits eventually started to come with a brace because people kept breaking the mounts off:

I'm sure you're front will be fine until you get your adjustable trackbar.

OK I have a few questions:

Did you break the front or the rear?

What was the setup the time of the incident?

What did you do to repair the problem?

What can I do to prevent this from happening to me?

I installed a Full Traction 2" BB. It came with some cheezy front track bar relocation bracket, and nothing for the rear. I am really worried that the mount will eventually break. My thoughts were to replace the front with an adjustable bar, and remove the bracket and leave the rear alone. Now I am even worried about the rear, maybe I should replace both? Or is that not going to prevent the problem or is there something else I need to do?

I would say the front factory bracket os much stronger than the rear. I put JKS adjustables on both, and had the rear brace welded on.

I installed my RE 2" BB and drove around for around 6 months before I put on adjustable trackbars. I didn't really need them, just wanted to get my axles centered again. The funny thing was that when I put on the BB, my steering wheel stayed centered and no adjustment to the draglink was needed. When I put the JKS trackbars on and got the axles centered again, the steering wheel turned a quarter turn. I thought adjusting the draglink was more for asthetics and didn't really affect driving. Boy was I wrong. I couldn't get over 30 mph without the ESP kicking in and driving my jeep crazy. I went back and adjusted the draglink to get the steering wheel centered and all was right with my jeep again. You'll probably have to drive it a few times and make minor adjustments to the draglink to get it centered just right.

I had to adjust my drag link when I installed my lift, which had the track bar relocation bracket on the front and nothing in the rear. My ESP went nuts as well.

Anyway, I noted that about a week later my wheel was off a little again. I think as the lift settled it put things out of allignment a bit. Anyway when I went back down there to adjust I also re-torqued the bolts. You would be shocked at how much they can work loose over a few days. That being said, anyone installing a lift should be sure to use some thread lock on the fasteners.
