The reason why it turns off is for the most traction and most control possible. you should try to drive your jeep in 4hi with traction contol on then with it off and you will see why. but it will only make a difference if you spinnig the tires. give it a try in some mud. it works the same way in 2wd try to drive on slick terrain in 2wd with trac contol on then off and see what happens. Huge difference. you will have alot more control over your vehicle with trac control off.

Default Confused?

Seems backwards to me. Why did they (Jeep) make it stay on al the time if it's better (more control) with it off? What is it's purpose if not to give you more control? Thanks

Because if you don't know how to "control" your Jeep when it is spinning the tires it can cause you to go "out of control" (so they say). When you turn ESP "off" it allows you to spin the tires but if you try to put it in a slide it will still apply the outside brakes to keep you from sliding out of control and rolling. If you don't like it (I hate it because it kept activating when going around corners LOWER than the speed limits) there is a key/steering wheel combo code to turn it off completely without having to push the button, and stays off no matter how many times you turn the car off and on.

it does help in everyday driving when the roads are wet or slick and you go around a corner not expecting to loose traction. but it doesent help when your on the trail at least in my experience.
