Tranny cooler
 

Ok I read a bit but can't find my answer. I just bought a trany cooler for my 09 jku auto but am unsure if I need to keep on the old cooler or add this one to it. It is the best one autozone had for 65$. Can anyone help with this? I had the hot oil light once already and don't want it again.

What brand is the cooler? Or snap a pic of the parts.

You normally just add the cooler to the system and not replace the existing cooler.

The instructions should make it clear. All the coolers I've installed (none on my JK yet) have kept the stock cooler in service.

Even with the cooler it is good to keep the tranny from generating unnecessary heat. Do this by running in 4-low when possible. This keeps the tranny cooler because instead of running, say, 2200 in high range and first or second gear with the torque converter unlocked, the engine will run 2200 in low range and third or fourth (OD) with the converter locked up. A locked converter produces much less heat.

You keep the original cooler in the circuit. Cut the line that returns fluid to the transmission. This way, the fluid goes into the original cooler, then into the aux cooler, then back to the transmission.
It's the top line on the side of the transmission that is the return line.

ok so went to do this "easy mod" lol last night.... opened the box.....wtf this doesn't seem right.Now i have a decent knowledge of some mechanics but this did not make sense to me. either there wasn't enough parts included or im an idiot that cant figure this out, either are probable.

That looks like a generic picture. Does it represent exactly what you received?

it is generic i pulled it off the internet because I forgot to take a pic of mine before work but yes it is the exact set up

I would say you are missing some barb fittings, and a couple hose clamps, then.

You will be cutting the return hose, so two double-ended barbs will go there.

Most people say some extra hose is needed, too.

that was my thought as well. i researched alot of uni kits and they all seem to have the same stuff in them so im not sure what there intent is on the install but it seems off
