Default Which Tranny cooler to buy?

I've seen two different model B&M coolers recommended on here. I don't know anything about these auxilary coolers, so can someone who does know, tell me which model to buy and why?

Model# 70264
Model# 70268

They both have the same footprint, but one is 3/4" wide and the other is 1 1/2" wide.

Thanks,
Kevin

70268 seems to be the popular one as I recall. Double check me in the attached link. After I install the MBRP Cat-Back exhaust next weekend a tranny cooler is the next install.

Post up what you decide and how your install goes.

i'm going with the 70264, just because i'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus we have quite a bit of room behind the grille.

True on the room, checked B&M's site and was surprised at the minimal difference between the two. The 11"x7-1/2"x3/4" 70268 is rated at 13,000 BTU and the 11"x6"x1-1/2" 70264 is rated at 14,400 BTU. That's an 11% increase, significant I think either one will suffice. Let the $10 difference in price make the decision for you. I'll probably go with the thinner 70268 but hey I'm scottish.

I'd be worried if it does, that in the winter here the trans fluid wouldn't get warm enough.
you run in series with the stcok cooler (Bottom portion of the a/c condenser). I wouldn't worry about it not getting warm enough on winter days, mbecause the b&m cooler have a bypass built in till the flood get warm enough to open and go through the cooler. atleast that was my understanding on the b&m coolers.

the 70268 is rated for a 19,000 GVW and the 70264 is rated for 24,000 GVW so both are more than enough for a jeep. and with a $10 dollar difference i could help but go with the bigger, But thats just me

the radiator cooler is not in the transmission cooling loop on the JK. And it won't get cold enough in Kansas to matter.

Just remember that you risk voiding your trans warranty. My dealer advised me not to do this. If your trans ever fails, they'll try to blame you for messing up your cooler installation at some point.

yes, it is a risk, but they would have to prove that the aux cooler caused the failure. The only scenarios I can imagine are 1) if the installation caused the ATF to leak out causing the tranny to burn, and 2) if the aux cooler blocked flow of the ATF causing the same result.

Considering the J30 recall and the known problem with the transmissions as well as the manual recommending auxiliary coolers, I am not worried.

Plus, I installed a cooler before the J30 recall, sent Chrysler the bill, and they paid it. Seems to me they recognize the need for extra cooling, even if they won't admit it.
