Default trans cooler

So I got the hot oil light tonight & figure I should get a transmission cooler so I don't have to post one of those crispy jeep pictures. So my question is how easy are the after market coolers to install?

Quite easy. Some of the vendors in this forum sell a complete kit that makes it quite easy.

I'm on my phone right now and the search is a pain. But you can find a couple write-ups and kits browsing the forum. If I find any of those I'll add to this post.

This is the one I followed. It works awesome. I've never had a "hot trans" light, but wheeling through the las Vegas desert all the time, I figured I should have it. And for around $70 there's no reason not to do it.

Thumbs up Transmission Cooler

On my 09 JKU Rubicon auto trans, I installed a Derale Tube/Fin 17" long cooler on the rail just in front of the radiator. The low profile of the cooler does not restrict airflow across the radiator.
The fins on the tube extend inside to help dissipate heat. The big advantages I found is, holds 28 oz more trans fluid, no restriction of air flow to radiator/condenser. I plumbed it in series with the trans oil return line.
In Arizona, during summer, the pan temperature neve got above 200 deg F. Tube cooler temp was 144 degs. Average pan temp in milder weather was 174 degs.
I'm using a laser thermometer.

Cost of cooler $67.00 plus shipping.

I've installed 2 of the MOPAR coolers. Very easy install; everything fit well. Lost only a few drops of fluid.

About how much extra fluid did you have to add to the system with the Mopar cooler? I have one in my garage ready to go

I haven't had to add any. Taking into account the temp of the fluid after a 10 mile drive, the level was good on both installs.
The picture shows what the fluid level should be at the various temps shown.
