It is true that the JK, at least mine, has a cooler already. It uses the bottom of the ac condenser, but I wanted a dedicated cooler, especially since I tow a camper.
got pics of your install? how big is the cooler and did you run it in addition to the stock one? Or just running the new one?

Nukeman, pm Offtopic for her writeup on the Trans Cooler she installed late last year. Also, Trailbud installed one after his Trans went South.
Why would you say that? And to capitalize the word "no".
I can actually see the stock trans cooler on my JK.

I originally asked because I have heard many reports of the "chime" during hillclimbing/towing and I figure it couldn't hurt, especially when running 35's.

There is also a thread on the JK Talk forum about yet another JK going up in flames. There is a lot of specualtion surrounding these fires (something like 5 to date?). Oddly, they all seem to be Unlimited Autos. One theory is a hot trans, puking ATF on the CAT, causing a fire. Who knows, I sure don't, but the thought of a vehicle fire and trying to free 3 kids from their car seats scares the hell out of me. even if it's just a theory and a longshot, I figure it's a cheap enough mod to rule the possibility out anyway.

Thanks for all the inputs so far.

No, I bypassed the stock one. I was going to run both, but I couldn't figure out the stock fittings. I just cut them and used hose clamps for the new one. I'll try to get some pictures later and dig up what model it was.

Thanks Rotor

All auto JK's have a trans cooler, its the bottom part of the air cond/cooler in front on the radiator, its black.

Also I emailed Griffin Radiator asking them about building a replacement trans cooler, I'll let you know if I hear anything back

BodyGuy also did a writeup on installing an external cooler with an integral fan. I have the same one and I have had it for a month or so, just haven't had time to install it yet.

I have watched his tranny temp gauge go up in temperature go up driving down the highway when you would think that temps would maintain.

They go up even higher on the trail at low speed and low airflow. I have an automatic temp sensor that will turn my on at a set temp and then i wil tie it thru a switch on the dash so I can bypass it if I need to go through water (don't want to damage the fan)

FYI, like an idiot I went that thing 7 times without doors and a top. Got my son and myself muddy and had a great time but now I have this vibration. I plan on taking it in.

Any ideas????
Hey ROK I've had the same thing, what you have to do is clean off the fan blades, they are unbalanced from the mud. The best thing to do is take the fan off the jeep and then you can clean the radiator good to, just dont use high pressure. THere are only 2 bolts holding the fan on, one on each side of it near the top, the one is actually right by the airbox. you can lift it out of jeep with the overfill tank still attached to it, just do it while its cool and you wont loose any fluid either, when you disconnect overfill hose from rad just clip the tip of it where the hose runs thru the plastic clamp/clip along the top of fan shroud

I have been pulling a trailer hauling firewood with my JK Rubicon Unlimited, Auto. I have a trans temp gauge and it rarely goes above 150 degrees. Guess I am not working it hard enough. Have double checked that the gauge is accurate with the infared temp gun and it matches the gauge. I do not see a need to add another cooler with temps like this occurring. What do you think?
