Default Trans Temp Sensor

Would someone who has installed a temp sensor in their transmission pan (42RLE) post where on the pan works best. I have a spare pan to modify so I can switch pans with minimal down time. My main concern is clearance for the probe. I have no idea how much room there is inside.

Don't know. I installed mine in line. After much research, I chose not to install in the pan (not quite as accurate, from what I found).

Ya, I think I would install it in the return line to the cooler close to the trans. That will give you the most accurate reading of fluid temp.

I don't want this to turn into a debate over where is the best place to get a reading.
I want to know where in the pan works, inside clearance being the point.
I will discuss why I chose the pan later if anyone is interested.
If you have a sensor in your transmission pan, please respond.

Really? I would think the supply line going TO the cooler would be best. This would be the temp BEFORE the fluid goes through the cooler. To me this would be closer to the "working" temp of the fluid. After all, isn't the purpose of a trans temp gauge to see how HOT the fluid is getting? The cooler outlet of the transmission would have the highest reading.....other than perhaps inside the converter.

Fair enough. Sorry if I helped turn it into a debate. Since you're obviously going to have to remove the pan anyway, You'd probably be a better judge of where to put it. I haven't removed a JK pan yet, so I cannot tell you for sure. Seems to me like you could find a higher spot other than the pan, but whatever makes you happy.

OK.
I was hoping to learn where to install in a spare pan so I could do a quick switch.
Let's give it a day or two, then we can debate.

I know a very close alternative to the pan is the transmission test port - the sensor should just screw in. The only problem is, I do not know where it is on the JK. This would give you the results of the pan temp, but without having to remove the pan and drill/weaken it.

Did anyone call Autometer? I recently installed a tranny temp gauge in my truck and they had very good customer support
