Default Transfer Case Swap

I am gearingup for a Rock Trac transfer case swap into my X.

Is the Transfer Case all that I need? Are all other components interchangeable?

Shifter?

Wiring?

Drive shafts bolt up?

Could it really be that easy?

Easy is a relative term. I swapped the stock case for an Atlas and it worked me hard. I'd recommend you pick up a stubby, flex handle 3/8 ratchet. Those two bolts up top are a true pain to deal with and a 1/4 ratchet just doesn't have the juice. Don't forget about unplugging that sensor/switch in the back of the case before you try to yank it. Be careful with the shift cable and clip. That thing can break fairly easily. And have a good jack. I borrowed a small motorcycle/ATV lift. A plain floor jack will make it interesting. A six pack and a friend will do you well on this one.

Here's a writeup from Atlas. Of course you ignore the shift cable parts, but there may be some useful stuff in it: ht tp://www.atlas-tc.com/install/jk.html

thanks...tools and a shop are not the problem.

All i want to know is whether the transfer case is all I need. Does the shifter interchange? Drivelines bolt up, etc...

I saw a 241R get swapped on Saturday.

1) Drop out old t-case
2) Pull harmonic dampner from 241R, put on new fixed yoke
3) Pull old yoke from front output shaft, put on new yoke.
4) Mount T-case
5) Mount T-case support
6) Connect D-shafts

The whole thing took 45 mins.

Andy

When you're swapping tcases, remove the crossmember and allow the t-case to hang down in the back. This allows for easier access to the 2 top nuts.

I have seen all of these, but my main question still has yet to be specifically answered definitively.

I need answers to this:
Will the yokes interchange?
Will the shifter interchange?
Drive shafts bolt up?

Other than the transfer case itself (and the fluid) will I need any other parts?

I don't think so, but I don't want to assume. The transfer case is on the way and I just don't want to tear it down to find out I need parts.

I have already upgraded my front drive shaft, but won't do my rear just yet.

The other link mentions removing the harmonic balancer and new yokes...Why?

I did this swap, but had 1310 yokes on both t-cases. I didn't install the harmonic balancer, the RockTrac t-case didn't have it. Seems some Rubi's have it and some don't. You should be able to just swap the driveshafts. I had no problems with the shifter. I didn't drop the crossmember, just used a stubby 12point on those top two bolts.
