With budget in mind... my opinion would be to sell your 2 wheeler and buy a 4 wheeler. Once you price out all the used parts (not even factoring in countless hours of labor, which is in a way more money) it just really doesn't make much sense to me. Unless you got an extremely cheap original purchase price to help offset the cost, I just don't really see it. Typically, most 2-4 wheel projects would be money ahead by simply selling and buying a 4x4, especially when the 4x2 is in good shape.
With a fun filled buildup in mind... go for it! A project like this can really get you in tune with your rig, and give you that extra satisfaction other than just bolting on a lift and set of tires. But, be prepared to shell out some dough and countless hours.

I'm actually looking forward to countless hours of labor. Exploring the option of front and rear 60's at this point. It's much more cost effective to convert and upgrade vs buying and upgrading later. Why pay for roughly 3k more parts u aren't going to end up using?

Its kinda like the guys who go out and buy a brand new Rubicon, and then put 60's and an atlas under it within 10k miles. That is assnine.
I was at first, I was just wanting to get it converted as soon as possible but after more careful consideration it would not make sense to go with my original plan. Times like these I'm glad I don't have the finances to make rash decisions.
There a a few conversions on the net that, with salvage parts and a weekend, are about $2000 conversions. It can be done for as little as $1500, but the stars must line up just right.

From the questions you have asked, a custom axle swap would probably be a bit much for you to handle. Dont take that the wrong way, I have the stock rubicon housing under my Jeep for a reason. Look for a D30 (Or a D44!). You have survived on 2WD, you will survive on a D30 just fine.

I don't plan on wheeling bunny slopes all the time (just when the wife is in the Jeep) haha. And I don't feel like wasting the time to build up a 30 to half ass keep up. A JK D44 is the same as a D30 minus the size of the pinion and gear set. Both known for snapping stock axels and bending housings. Bend a housing and you're starting over. Imo, it only makes sense to go to tons if I plan on really having fun with it..
If I was talking about building portals... That would be a different story.
Don't get me wrong though, I appreciate and respect what you are saying
