Transmission Just Crapped Out On Me - Had To Get My Jeep Towed :(
Just dropped a friend off and all of a sudden my Jeep started to make these weird noises right below the clutch area. Then a few miles down the road the engine started smoking. I pulled into a gas station to check under the hood. Oil and radiator fluid looked good but there was water dripping from the transmission casing on the bottom. I tried to start it back up and it started but then the clutch pedal is loose as a goose with no resistance or tension and on the stick I cant move it into into any gear.
Does this ring a bell with anybody? Thanks for looking.

You might've blown your master/slave cylinder. It might not be water but brake fluid. Check your brake fluid reservoir, as they use that to fill the clutch cylinders. Also that would explain it just sinking to the floor.
Or you could of simply had it go out. The clutch that is.
If it did die, one way to find out, if you can. Is to get it rolling in first, about 10mph, then shift into 4th/5th and see if the rpm's increase without being in conjunction with the speedo. This'll tell you that your clutch either isn't making contact, or is just worn out.
Or it could be even simpler than that and your linkage just broke, but I'm guessing it's not that, as it wouldn't cause weird sounds and the like.
What mods do you have? Gear ratio and tire size?

Are you sure it was water? It could be--that's where the air conditioning water drains. But, as pointed out, the clutch fluid is also the clear brake fluid. While water will dry up, the brake fluid will still be present and oily.
The only mods are a 2" rancho lift kit. Stock 17" moab wheels with bf goodrich MT tires. I'm guessing gear ratio is stock no mods there. There have been some strange noises going on down there for a little while now, I was actually going to have it looked at this week.
It could be water. A leak from the rear of the intake manifold will drip coolant thru the bell housing, fouling up the clutch. Had that issue on my 07 for a while.... And then the block cracked.[SUP][/SUP]

Really sounds like the slave cylinder to me, I had the exact same experience a few weeks back while trying to pull out of a friends driveway. I ended up bleeding the brake/clutch fluid and it's been fine. But a new slave cylinder is needed. The leak you see from the transmission is most likely brake fluid.
