Question Transmission Temp Gage Install Question

I'm installing a cooler and transmission temp gage since I burnt up my Automatic tranny at 17000 miles. My questions is: Can I use a existing trans temp sensor or should I put the sensor in the pan by drilling and welding it?
My JK has been in the shop for 7 weeks and I need to do this before I go out on a trail. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks.

They may give you a hard time for warranty work if you start drilling and welding. That's my thought at least.

I would put it in the side of the pan. drill and weld the bung to the side.

Sounds like you should also get a tranny cooler.

Thanks for the suggestions, I need to think about the warrenty issues, so I decided to install the sensor inline on the tranny send line. This way I don't touch the tranny for warranty issues, it very easy and it will give a accurate reading.

Just found this.. Look up B&M part # 80212

# 100 degree to 350 degree face
# Comes with light kit, color-coded dial face & anti-glare ABS enclosure
# All wires, terminals, sending unit and T-fittings included for easy installation

I'm using a VDO gage set for trans temp. oil temp, and oil pressure.
My JK is getting the new transmission installed today and will finish tomorrow. I will do a write up on it, hopefully next week. Just a note on the ground placement. I found out the ground for the gage should be in the same area as the sensor in order to get an accurate reading.
Take care.

Default Installed transmission cooler and multiple gages

I installed a B & M Super Cooler for the transmission and VDO gages with VDO gage pods for a transmission temp, oil temp and oil pressure gage set up in the Drivers side "A Pillar".

Pictures and detailed descriptions are listed on the pictures.
It took some time and just so you know the transmission send line for the automatic is the bottom one that runs long to the condenser. The splice was easy if you set up the cooler lines first to have them ready to attach when you cut the line.
Check out the pictures.
Click on the picture. I'll add some more but it's a start.
