Default Trying To Figure Stuff Out

I have an '07 Jk Unlimited x. I would like to know the first steps to turning this vehicle into an off-road beast. It already has 315 70 17 tires on it and I'm assuming a 3.5" in lift (not exactly sure, could be 4"). Budget isn't an issue so I can go with products that are going to last and get the job done!

I'd start with recovery gear.

Step 1: Read some posts on here to figure out what you have and gather a few knowledge tips.
Step 2: Make some friends with capable (or not capable) vehicles and go wheeling.
Step 3: Have fun, get stuck, break stuff.
Step 4: Upgrade and repair items from wheeling trip.
Step 5: Repeat.

1. Tires. Run the appropriate tires for the terrain you are going to tackle. I suggest looking for a C rated tire or other that has a low weight rating for better traction off road.
2. Gears. Run the optimal gears for your tire size. The lower the gears (higher number) the better you will crawl and you will have more control over technical obstacles.
3. Lockers. Lockers will give you extra traction and allow you to crawl at lower speeds and offers better control. I prefer selectable type.

These will increase the capability of the vehicle more then anything expect experience. Get out and drive. Wheel with people that are experienced, ask questions, watch how they tackle obstacles. There is no substitute for experience or bolt on product that is going to make you a pro off roader. Lifts mean very little to off roading, they are there to allow clearance for bigger tires and longer shocks.

Go wheeling. It takes time and effort to learn what makes a good rig for doing what you like. You are close to some of the best East Coast off-road parks. Try Windrock Park

You will meet others who would be happy to assist in your quest to build a beast, and with an unlimited budget, you will be able to have lots of fun in the process.
