Default Turbo vs supercharger

I recently read about a remote turbo system from STS (squire turbo systems) built specifically for jeep jks and I'm considering installing one. Has anyone installed this and how does it compare to superchargers?

Turbochargers work off exhaust and superchargers work off a belt driven pulley. Turbos build pressure slower than superchargers and will lag until rpm's are up whereas superchargers power is almost instant. But superchargers actually rob some horsepower because it is belt driven and puts a load on the motor

STS claims they have engineered a lag free turbo with skyjacker but I've not talked to anyone that's tried it yet

Dennis Woods from Teraflex runs one on his blue JKU. Ive never heard of anyone else with the system though.

If it were my Jeep, I would go supercharger. You wont get all the power of the turbo system but the power is there at low rpms, right where you need it when crawling.

I am thinking Turbos and water fording do not go well together.

6 grand for a turbo kit? Or 5 grand for a supercharger? OR, 1500 to 2000 for proper gearing?

Oh, and with the supercharger an turbo, don't forget to gear properly then too.

So take out a small loan and have fun. :-P

I'll stick with regearing. Less to break.

agreed, superchargers give u more power at the lower rpm range so for crawling it is great. now if ur more into racing then the turbo is ur best choice cuz it has a larger power band. now there is no such thing as a lagless turbo but they have came along way and drastically reduce the lag. something like a garret t28 turbo has an almost instant spool up but only good for around 300hp while u can go larger turbos but each size up has a lower spool up. when i was into import racing the t3/t4 was a nice quick spool up and still capable of around 700hp with proper set up

i would go turbo if you are not in alot of deep water and mud .there is no lag in that small of a turbo anyone who sayes they are had a shitty tuner, the bigger you go the more lag you get,a good tuner would be able to get you where you want to be on hp and tq rpms.you do not need horsepower for rock krawling you need torque and a turbo makes way more than a supercharger.the rule of thumb is torque gets you going then horsepower keeps you there, thats why diesels are not supercharged

diesels use turbos cuz the diesel engine itself produces tons of low rpm torque so its not dependent on the no lag situation. dont get me wrong i am a turbo man when it comes to racing but because i know the works and headaches of turbos id never use one for crawling. a majority of turbos are air cooled but even the high priced oil cooled ones are prone to heat damage at idle and slow crawl on trails. one solution is to use a turbo timer which even after you turn the engine off will allow your engine to run for a period to let the turbo cool but with out the constant airflow from road speeds it would not last as long as a supercharger before you have bearing failure.

STS claims to not have the cooling issues I'm not very knowledgable on motors so I dont know what's BS sales talk and fact but they say that the way there's is engineered there's very little spool up and more power than any other, I am mainly on road so turbos appealing but at the same time I don't want to be driving Offroad or in snow and burnout when the turbo hits
