Default Upgraded Front Driveshaft

I finally am installing a new front driveshaft since my boot tore last summer. (Automatic transmision)
I have the 3 in FT lift. I noticed a little rubbing mark on the stock shaft where it would rub on the front skid plate when the axle would droop, in addition to the usual transmission contact.
I do not remember anyone mentioning they had to modify the skid plate after replacing the driveshaft. Does the new smaller diameter shaft clear ok at the skid plate?

Thanks.

yes, new drive shafts will be smaller in diameter and it will clear your skid.

Thanks WOL, I figured that was the case, but thought it was worth clarifying.

Silly question, but looking at replacing my front DS to go up in lift size. Are the replacement drive shafts litterally just thinner in diameter, but just as good in durability?

actually, the factory shafts are really strong and a good design that won't vibrate even at steeper angles. the problem is that they are huge in diameter and not serviceable. aftermarket u-joint style shafts are narrower in diameter and plenty strong but are prone to vibrations if they are set properly in the rear or if you have too much caster. another benefit is that u-joints are serviceable and easy to find for cheap.

Depending on what shaft you get, but most likely yes. If you get a shaft that is custom sized, it might be a problem. If you get an off the shelf 1310/1350 you shouldn't have a problem. My teraflex driveshaft would work on both 3 and 4" lifts.

i guess i would probably go with je reel or tom woods drive shafts. if i went with one of these brands, could i get drive shafts that would work with both 3 and 4" lifts?

It also depends on what size tires your pushin as well. if they are 35" and under i would recommend stickin with the 1310 je reel if you plan on going bigger get the 1350.

Most likely - I'm pretty sure the JE Reel would work. You would have to ask on the Tom Woods, but I'm sure if you tell them what your plans are they can ensure its the proper length to accomdate both sizes. adding one inch of boost isn't going to lengthen the distance of the shaft by too much.
