Default Upgrading to 35's

Noob question on upgrading my tires. First off my current set up is P265/70R17. I am researching everything before I buy for my massive upgrade that's to come in the near future and I would like to upgrade from my 32" "sand tires" to 35" Mud tires. I hear a lot about the BFG KM 2's, however, they do not come in the P315/70R17 format. I would like to use my same rims to avoid higher costs, and I know there is backspacing issues and what not, my only concern is making sure the tires will actually fit. How do I go about ensuring that when I pick the tire it will actually fit and won't cause any rubbing? Thanks.

You will need spacers for 35's if you plan on using your stock rims, due to the backspacing issue.

It is usually suggested that you have at least a 2" lift for 35's but if you do some searching on here plenty have been successful with a leveling kit, or no lift at all with trimmed fenders.

yeah, you can run 35's on factory 17" wheels no problem but, you will need to run 1.5" wheel spacers with them. also, you do know you will need to install at least a 2.5" lift right? that or trim your factory fenders. even at 2.5", you will have some rubbing issues but a 1" body lift will take care of that.

Thanks all for the responses. I forgot to mention, I already have aftermarket rims. They are MTs. Sadly I do not remember the actual name of the rim. I do plan on getting at least a 3" lift, but might get a 3.5" lift. Currently I think I have decided on one of the Rock Krawler mid-arm systems. I want a complete suspension lift kit, but the problem is there are so many to choose from, I get a little over whelmed since I do not know everything about lifts (getting lift kit w/o shocks and looking at fox, kings or blistein's). With all of that said about the tires, does the aspect ratio (i.e Pxxx/70R17 really matter? Or is there a certain number I should be looking at that? Also, since I am in the great state of Hawaii, I will need to make sure my tire shoulder is completely covered by the fender. Will the Bushwhacker fenders extend far enough out to cover the outter shoulder, or should I look at another vendor? One last note, is i'm redoing my front axle completely, and I am 95% on getting the Dana 44 front ProRock Unlimited from Northridge 4x4 with the arb locker, RCV shafts, 1350 yoke, blah blah blah, will this have any impact on which tires I should get? Again thank you for your help.

The proRock44 won't have any effect on the tires or back spacing. You said you have after market rims already. Do you know what the back spacing on those are? If not and you have a matching spare you could measure that and find out the back spacing. You might not need the spacers, that would save you 200 bucks. A 35" tire usually runs in 12.5 or 13.5 widths. Your looking at the metric part of tire sizes. You should be looking for a 35x12.5rx17 or a 35x13.5rx17. Since your running a 3.5 inch RC lift ( which will net your around 4" on a 2dr) you want at least 4.5" of back spacing on your rim.
