Default Upgrading brake caliper?

So my brakes keep squealing when I press them and even have a quiet rotational squeal when not pressed. I took it to brake check and asked them if they could check them. He didn't even take the tires off (offered to do a full inspection) and told me it was because of the cheap calipers and larger tires He said the best thing to do is to get online and buy after market calipers. I'm assuming he was being honest or didn't want to deal with it because he didn't even try to sell me anything. Anyone know what he is talking about or have suggestions for upgrades without raping my bank account??

He's full of crap. Your pads might need to replaced. When were they replaced last?

Larger calipers like from Teraflex are nice but have nothing to do with any noise from the brakes just better stopping power with the larger tires.

I just bought it about 6 months ago. I haven't changed them, but it has 18k miles on it. He said something about some cheap piston in the caliper and needing to upgrade to steel pistons (which might as well be Spanish to me)

I'd take to someone that specializes in brakes and ask them. My experience with brakes has been that if they squeek either a) they are worn out and the wear indicators are causing it or b) they were replaced and the installer didn't use any "brake quiet" on the backing plate. Get then checked out at another shop...

Yea that was pretty much my plan for now. I just thought I would check with all the mechanical gurus here too.

I agree chck with a brake specialist but if you do end up upgrading I would recomend the teraflex upgade I have heard great things about it. Good luck .

Had to put new pads on mine at 14k running 37" tires

Mine has 315/70/17s and I'm guessing based on wear they have been on there for almost all 18k miles. Hopefully it's just time for new brakes. They still work well. We guess I'll find out soon.
