Upgrading to Dynatrac 60 and 80; need advice on wheel offset.
My JK is heavy, at 6800 pounds, and with an LS3 and 37's I don't think the stock axles will hold up. I have decided to go with Dynatrac axles. I am going to go full float in the rear. I had decided to go with the low pinion 60 but the ProRock 80 is only 524 more (at a cost of .32 ground clearance). In the front I'm going to go with the ProRock hi pinion 60.
A problem with going with a full 60 front end is that you go from 66" to 68.5" width. Another problem is that you can't use your current 5x5 JK wheels with full float axles (so my Beadlock Pintlers are going to be for sale). The Pinters have a 4.5" backspace. And since I'm going with new wheels I'm going to skip over 5x5 1/2 and 6xwhatever and go 8 lug. I want to go with Hutchison 8 lug wheels but the seemingly standard wheel, the 1174 with 4.5" backspacing will not be available until October.
They do have the same wheel available in a 5.28 backspacing. Do any of you have any idea how this would work out. I would really rather the JK not be any wider and with this additional backspace, even with the wider axle, I would only be .94 wider than I am now.
Is there any problems I may encounter going with 5.28 backspacing? Somebody suggested to me that it could be better in that the arc the tire swings would be smaller and that the load would be closer to being over the ball joints.

Why do you suggest 4" backspacing as opposed to 4.5 or the 5.28 I mentioned. I have Pintlers with 4.5 that I don't contact anything with now.I would think going to wider axles would make backspacing a bit less critical but I could be wrong.
There are some trails here in Colorado that we frequent that are a bit on the narrow side. Additional width may make a couple of them impossible.

That is my guess too, but given the cost of wheels I hate to make a bad decision. If I can go with a full 60 in the front and a matching width full float 60 or 80 in the back and only be an inch wider I'd be happy.

What tires are you running and what's your total width

Mine are being installed now and I went with the exact same setup as you. 80 rear and full 60 front. I chose wheels that have a 5.43 inch backspacing. I just took some pictures today, so here is what it looks like.

I am running 37" nitto grapplers. Hopefully this will help you come to a decision.
