Default Upgrading gears

I'm planning to get new tires soon. Most likely 35's but some day would love 37's. I have a dana 30 in the front and 44 In back with 4.10's right now. I don't want to upgrade my gears with a 30 in the front. I'm looking into a rubi 44 or finding a 44 to put up front (can't afford new one or aftermarket) after doing so I'm not sure what gears to get. I thought at one point just 4.88 but now I'm thinking I should just go to the 5.13 in the case of ever going to 37's. I make a few road trips back and forth to college and do some highway driving.

X2. If it wasn't for the 30, 5.38's would be in mine.

My only worry with the 5.38 is the highway driving.

What size tires are you running with the 30 up front?

x3 for the 5.13s with the 30 or 5.38s with a 44. With that auto trans, from what I've read and seen from other member it is the way to go, regardless of going with 35s or 37s.

I have 37s on my dana 30 up front. I beefed up the 30 with gussets, lower control arm skids and heavy duty ball joints. I'm running 4.88s but I have a 6spd, not the auto.

I have 35's auto with 4.88's. I prefer to be able to use OD for its intended purpose, be able to use OD lockout and get good highway power, mileage and manners.

I just had mine regeared and am happy with it, gas mileage seems close to stock but now that gears are broken in will begin better records to see where mileage really is.

IMO the Jeep tranny is not a true 4 speed but a 3 speed with a tall OD at .69. If it had final drive around .78 it would be a much better tranny and true 4 speed.

I don't like the idea of making 4th the end all gear - by gearing for 4th if you do much freeway driving like I do, locking out OD when needed becomes difficult and top speed suffers.
