Default Upgrading my stock Rubicon

Hello,

What do you say about exchanging stock tires (255/75R17) on my Rubicon for 265x70R17 or 265x75R16? Those are the sizes I am alowed to use in Portugal. At least on these sizes I can get mud tires.
Do you think a lift would help to improve its ability to offroad? Do you recomend what type of lift. I don't want the Jeep looks high with small wheels.
I was thinking a kit of 2'' ou 3''.

I am all opened to suggestions in wheel (steel) and tires too.

Thanks a lot guys.

Allowed to use by who? Is it government mandated that you stay with that height? Or is it just the normal recommendation based on a stock vehicle?

255/75/17 = 32.1x10
265/70/17 = 31.6x10.4
265/75/16 = 31.6x10.4

Between those options, I'd stay with the stock height on the stock rims.

If it isn't a government regulation, you can go up to a 33x10.50 with no lift/spacers and maybe minor trimming. You can go wider, but will need more trimming and possibly spacers or new rims with a different backspace. If you want a lift, decide what tire height you want to go to before choosing.

Also browse through the Wheels & Tires area of the FAQ's at the top of this section if you haven't already.

I want to have a set of M/T tires to go to rides and have the stock to use everyday.

The rules are made by portuguese laws, but I can pay and have other sizes, even 35'', but I don't want to go bigger than 33''.

The problem is; when I put stock wheels and tires I stay with bigger suspension and smaller wheels/tires, it does look bad or not? Or a 2'' or 3'' lift doesn't affect the ride with stock wheels?

Thank everyone.

For a 2" lift 32: tries will look a little small. 33" tries would look ok. Can you do a 285/70/17?

That 285/70R17 is 33x10,5 I think and it's what i'd rather but I have to pay an extra to legalize that size... But it's what I am probably going to do.

I've seen many 2'' and 2,5'' very interesting. I would like to have a very confortable ride but also good on offroad with plenty of suspension range.
What do you suggest?

Thank mates

285/70/17 are 33X11.5. They should fit on stock wheels without a lift and should not rub. If you add a 2" lift then that would be a good compromise between off-road capabilities, flex, clearance, yet still maintain good on road handling and gas mileage. This is one of the most common configuration people are running for those reasons.

I am going to have the M/T tires mounted in steel wheels only for offroading. For an everyday use I am going to ride stock wheels and tires.
Anyone uses Cragar wheels? Are they good?
