Default very low hywy mpg

i posted about the sensor in the stock forums but here is the situation.

08 rubicon 6speed on stock tires, no added weight.
I have the airraid cai and flashpaq from superchips

in the city it get between 18 and 19mpg depending on stops and traffic.
on the hywy my mileage is far less
I just took a trip from richmond va to macon ga. 613mi one way.

on the way down I ran the 87 tune and got
16.2mpg @75mph
16.8mpg @70mph

on the way back I ran the mileage xs tune and got
16-17mpg at 73mph

Shouldn't my hywy mileage be better or at least the same as my city mpg's
all this is on I95 using cruise.

If i got to the stock tuning and take off the cai I get the same mpg's
top on, top off, doors on or off it makes no difference to the mpg's

help

Bro its like this.

One trip I went through nearly two full tanks going from Tulsa, OK to Dallas, TX.

The Next trip I got down there with nearly 1/4 of a tank.

It has to do with wind drag etc. If the wind is with ya you're good... if its against ya you're pumpin more gas.

My 6 speed stock Rubicon turns 2900 RPM at 80 mph. That's how fast I drive on the interstate so I get terrible MPG. Comes with the territory.

Hills and wind makes such a huge difference in these things. I think just one trip may not be enough to say one way or the other

BTW I would kill for your mileage. I average around 14.5

Stock Rubicon here too. Except I removed the front air dam and have a Magnaflow open exhaust. I get about the same MPG. I drive every weekend to the mountains (about 180 miles each way) and consistently get about 16-17 mpg. I have never cared about it and have never worried about mileage or how much I am spending on gas. If you can't afford it, get a Prius or a Smart car and get out of my way!

Default 15.8 - 16.7 mpg`....`thats all stock

Just did a round trip from Yuma (AZ) to Anaheim (CA) this weekend - Calculated mpg by hand. Seems the MPG only varried slightly (15.8 going there 16.7 comming back) ... Jeep did seem to have to down shift a couple times to get aver some of the hills but kept me 73 - 80 mph most of the way (till we got to the LA traffic).

I would guess this MPG is about average to what I've read in this forum for the stock setup (08' Rubi - Auto).

Will install E3 plugs this week and see if there is any change in the MPG or response.

Has anyone had any experience with the SB cold air intake setup? probably going to be my next addition. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thx ...

I don't know when you installed your CA I, but I noticed myself on the gas more because of the sound of the airraid.

I have almost 13" wide tires and get about 16mpg on the highway.

cruise control+6spd=the suck.

i honestly think you would be better off not using the cruise on a manual tranny, just down shift to 5th if you need a bit more power. there is so much load on the motor when the terrain/wind changes when you use 6th and cruise control.
