Default Volant CAI Prefilter?

To all those running Volant CAI's, I have a question. Are you running a prefilter? If so where did you get it from and if its ok with you, a price? I have searched the internet and this website high and low and cannot find anything. Volant's website doesn't even have one. I have a email into Outerwears and we will see if they respond but I am hoping that someone else has crossed this bridge before. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just order from your local autoparts store....usually run around $15.00 well worth it to filter out the finer particles as well as increases your interval to clean your filter.

Default Outerwears

A company called Outerwears (outerwears.com) gave me a part # of 20-1696. Based on looking at the dimensions it should work. You can also order the prefilters in a lot of different colors. I will order it later this week and I'll post whether it fits or not.

Hoooop there it is!

Thats just what I was looking for and sorry I didn't see your response right away. I used the Outerwear before and loved it. Even up at the Dunes it filtered out alot of sand and dust and even some mud chunks on my TJ. I will ordere it up tomorrow. Thanks JK-Rubi Also how do you like your Volant intake? So far I'm loving it!

Also are you at all concerned with the opening at the bottom of the intake box? For some reason it worries me even though its in front of the wheels. I've read on here of a setup with a drain catch used a critter/debris catcher but I'm wondering if you've done anything?

Thanks again and if anyone else has any ideas I'd appreciate it

The pre-filters are useless once they are saturated. They repel water but only a small amount for a short amount of time.

But if your biggest concern is sand/road debri then you got it for the right reason.

Probably will catch all kinds of grief for saying this, but I especially love the increase in gas mileage.

Yup, I've got the critter guard, but mainly installed it to block that bottom opening just in case I splashed water up to the filter, however that was prior to the Pre-filter. With the PF installed, I need to crawl under and pull that thing off - have always wondered if it might be degrading the air intake function/circulation slightly.

Primary reason was the occasional splash from water/mud, but am also looking forward to NOT picking bug parts out of the filter during the next re-charge.
